A Bit About Us

Prairie Point Quilts became Prairie Point Quilt & Fabric Shop in early September, 2013 when I became the third owner since the store opened in 1995.   The staff and I are committed to providing you with high-quality fabrics, notions, patterns, books, service and inspiration to meet your sewing needs.  We will be expanding sewing projects to including not only quilts, but bags, more small projects, clothing and home decor.

In January 2014, Prairie Point Quilt & Fabric Shop relocated to the Ten Quivira Plaza shopping center at 11950 Shawnee Mission Parkway. The shop faces Quivira Road in a row of shops situated just east of Price Chopper.

New fabrics arrive each week and we invite you to stop by to see the latest. As trends change, we will be showcasing fabrics, notions, patterns and ideas so they will be available locally.

A Bit About Susan:

My passion for sewing began when I was a very young girl and I longed to use my mother's sewing machine. At age nine, Mom began teaching me the skills I needed to sew garments for 4-H projects. Afterwards, everything made of fabrics and yarn grabbed my attention. Mom provided what was needed to keep me busy and by the time I was in high school, I was making most of my own clothes.

I graduated from Central Missouri State University with a degree in Vocational Home Economics. A class on textiles was my favorite. This educational foundation inspired quilt-making, creating fabric craft items, and learning new skills. My first quilt was a LeMoyne Star that I hand pieced and hand quilted.

Gaining retail experiences at Bay Window Quilt Shop in Perham, Minnesota and at Prairie Point have been invaluable in preparing me for being the new owner. I am grateful to both shops for the opportunity to develop and expand my knowledge of retailing in the quilt industry.
