Summer on the Farm

By Jennie Jo Lamb

We are so excited to introduce Summer on the Farm by Lamb Farm Designs. This 12-month program starts in April 2023 and costs $18/month. Kits include fabric for the entire quilt top and the binding. The pattern book will be purchased up front separately at the beginning of the program for $25.

Final quilt measures 60” x 70” when finished and is recommended for an experienced beginner.

Pictures of the finished blocks will be posted monthly so you can get an up-close look at our blocks.

We will let you know when the pattern books are available. You can purchase beforehand or when you pick up your first block.

Month 1 - April Be sure to read the note I put in your April kit. Read the cutting instructions carefully and the General Instructions on pages 4-5, though you might have other favorite techniques for making flipped corners. Happy sewing!

This video will give you a jump start on your April kit and give you more information about what to look for in more kits.

I also talk about some notions and tools I found helpful.

Not doing the BOM? You can still make this with us — just get the PATTERN BOOK and get sewing!

Month 2 - May We’re making the Sunflower blocks and the Zinnia blocks. There are lots of little pieces, but they turn out sewww cute! Video coming soon!

Month 3 - June. It’s supposed to be the sheep blocks this month, but we don’t have fabric for them. Hopefully you will get sheep next month, in July. Enjoy making more flowers! For the posies, just sew triangles on the corners as described in the pattern. There won’t be a video this month. Just cut carefully and sew 1/4” seams.

Month 4 July — Aren’t they cute? Your pattern book has two separate patterns/set of instrucitons. I will give some tips in the video. The two blocks are actually identical, just facing opposite directions. Look for Left Facing Sheep and Right Facing Sheep. Don’t be deceived by the size of the blocks below. Seems my camera was closer up on one.

Month 5 August — Lemonade and Birdhouses.

You have some little pieces again. You will make each half of the lemonade jar, then put the stripe strip between them. Don’t forget to double the cuts on the yellow, triple the cuts on the other pieces. Same with the birdhouses; when blocks have identical colors, cut the number you need as the pattern has cuts for one block, remember? Lookin’ so cute.

Month 6 September — That ice cream bucket shape isn’t hard to do. Just read and follow the instructions carefully.

The bumble bees are identical. They might not look like it in the photo because they are each partially sewn to sashing blocks on different sides. Seam allowances are taken in.

Month 7 October — These cute little birds won’t take long to make. Left-facing birds are blue; right-facing are red. Snowball corners and half-square triangles. That’s it!

Month 8 - November — Get ready for some fun! The pictures should help you some, but in the video I talk about using the V-Block Ruler for the house block. For the barn I explain why you have so much roof fabric for those little strips of roof.

Again, you can use Deb Tucker’s V-Block, Creative Grids 2 Peaks in 1, and Eleanor Burns’ Triangle in a Square, or your favorite for that!

Month 9 - December — This month you have three different blocks to make — the truck, three flags, and two pinwheel blocks that go between the flags. The fabrics in your kit should be placed grouped by the blocks. Hopefully it’s not confusing.

Let me know what you think of that Baked Oatmeal recipe. Sounds interesting.

Month 10 - January — Pears. Save the green and brown for the next month, which is Apple month. The pears and apples have lots of snowball corners. Watch how the vertical background is placed at the side.

No video this month. Next month is the barn and house! You will make a peaky and spike unit, practice for the last month where you will make the bunting across the top and bottom.

You can use Deb Tucker’s V-Block, Creative Grids 2 Peaks in 1, and Eleanor Burns’ Triangle in a Square, or your favorite for that!

Make two pinwheel blocks to go between the flags. Cute!

Month 11 - February — Apples. We’re almost finished with Summer on the Farm. Next month I’ll have a video on the V-Block units again. There’s a lot of them, but no fear. With the right tool you’ll have perfect units.

Month 12 - March — Picture and video will be coming. I will talk about putting the quilt together and making the V-Block with the Studio 180 tool.
