Meet The Owners

Cathy Hodges - Owner

I love fabric. This started early in my life, when my mother sewed clothes for me and my three sisters, and our dolls too. I always liked going to the fabric shops to feel the bolts of fabric and see the designs and colors. My sister Mary and I joined the Johnson County 4-H club, Clear Creek Range Riders, when we were 10 and 11. We took cooking, sewing, and leathercrafting. I sewed garments for several years and got into quilting the past six years. I enjoy sewing for my family, and now especially for my grandson Rhett. Being surrounded by fabric was my main goal after retiring from nursing and healthcare administration for 30 years. A great opportunity came to light at the same time I was planning to retire in 2023. I was glad to find that the owners of Prairie Point Quilt and Fabric Shop were also planning to retire. This shop has everything I hoped to do with sewing: classes to keep the quilting arts alive, quilting at all skill levels, notions and fabric, fabric, fabric... My husband Bruce is also in this new venture, and he enjoys fabric, crafts, and artistic creations of any kind. When he is in the shop, he is either running the business operations or taking grandson Rhett around the shop on his mobile scooter.

Ashley Hower - co-owner

Howdy, folks! I'm Ashley Hower, co-owner of Prairie Point Quilt & Fabrics Shop and the daughter of Bruce and Cathy. I started dabbling in sewing just a few years ago when I moved away from the city. My mom gave me her old sewing machine, and I've only done small sewing projects like making a bed skirt, curtains, and fixing minor tears in garments.

I grew up and went to school in Olathe, Kansas. I received my Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from KU and my Masters in Business Administration from WGU. My husband and I live on 34 acres in Louisburg, Kansas. We have three dogs and a 10-month-old son named Rhett. Rhett came with me to work for the first few months that I started here, and he loved visiting all the ladies in the classroom and the staff around the shop!

I took my first quilting class at the shop, where I made a baby quilt for Rhett. I learned a lot of little things in that class that have helped my sewing in general. I plan to sign up for more courses to improve my sewing and quilting skills. I'm so glad to be here and to work alongside an amazing staff! If you don't see me on the shop floor, come back to the office to say hi!
