What is Block Party?
Block Party is a block of the month program designed in-house beginning in September 2023 and ending August 2024. Unlike our other BOM programs, Block Party is a 12-month mystery quilt that offers you an incentive to keep on pace.
On the 2nd Monday or 2nd Saturday of each month, come in and pick up your kit for the next month’s block. If you personally bring your finished block from last month, you’ll receive the next kit for $4.50 instead of the regular $6.50 price. If for any reason you cannot come on Block Party day or do not have your finished block with you, the block kit will cost $6.50.
Again, to get the special price of $4.50 on kits:
Come to the shop on Block Party Day (the second Saturday or the second Monday).
Come you yourself - not friend, spouse or anyone else.
Have the block from the month before completed and with you.
Only one kit each month qualifies for the $4.50 price.
Each month, we will post pictures of the finished block right here in each of the two colorways offered.
At the end of the program, you’ll also have the opportunity to purchase a setting kit for the quilt, which will be approximately throw/twin sized. The pictures and descriptions of the finished quilts will be shown a couple months before for your consideration and you may sign up for one at that time.
A mail order option is available for out-of-towners. Call the shop for details: (913) 268-3333.
Please join us — it’s a lot of fun!
Signups close October 31, 2023.
Option #1:
Woodland Wildflowers
This colorway is all about deep, earthy tones, rustic florals, and a slightly modern feel. Expect to see a color palette made up of rust, gray, navy, olive green, and warm peach tones.
Option #2:
COUNTY FAIR
Enjoy a trip back to simpler times with timeless and beautiful 1930’s reproduction prints! This colorway will feature Lori Holt’s bright colors and whimsical vintage motifs.
September — Our first block of the season is simple but stunning. One of my favorites. We’re beginning with four prints in addition to the background; it won’t usually be this way. The half square triangles here looks like the LeMoyne Star block. You don’t have to follow the ABCD order but it’s helpful to start out with instructions that way. Measure twice, cut once!
October— I’ll show you how to trim up the flying geese. Once you get them made the blocks will just fly together!
November — Flying Geese, half square triangles, and lots of snowball techniques. This is not difficult, just a lot of piecing going on here. Didn’t it turn out great? The video is below.
December - Read carefully where it shows how to make the ribbon units. They are going in opposite directions.
January - Square in a square fun!
February — Oh, it doesn’t matter if you switch your medium and light pieces. Just keep them the same throughout. Be very careful in how you are sewing and trimming these ribbon geese units! Remember, they are mirror images and the stitching goes in the opposite direction.
March — Square in a square and half-square triangles — you know what to do. And measure twice, cut once!
April - Sawtooth stars and flying geese!
May - What a striking 9-patch design!
June - Half-Square triangles galore this month!
July - Two more beautiful blocks! These two are already set in the shop-sample finished quilts. Make sure you preorder your finishing kits!
August - This is the last block! We can’t believe that we are already at the finish line. Don’t forget to grab your finishing kit with the center medallion to finish your quilt.
