Canton Quilting Circle

Block of the Month

The design team at Wing and a Prayer Designs welcomed the opportunity to design a quilt for the legendary Judie Rothermel of Schoolhouse Quilts, and  her hometown of Canton, OH, using her new collection, Canton Quilting Circle.  It tells the story of a group of friends gathering to sew.

Named for Judie’s hometown of Canton, OH, this group includes rich tones of inky blue, slate, butterscotch, sage and garnet mixed with warm neutrals.  The intricate wallpaper stripe, spaced florals and leaf and vine coordinates are reminiscent of Judie’s early quilting influences and popular looks of the region.

“We incorporated Judie’s love of classic blocks such as the Tree of Life, Ohio Star and the Spool Blocks.”  They used  the wallpaper stripe to border the spool blocks, cutting it creatively as sashing and within the four sides of the quilt. The beautiful lead floral creates a rich, dramatic border, with fussy cuts used within some of the interior blocks.

This 12-month program utilizes basic quilting techniques, written in classic Wing and a Prayer Design style. The quilt finishes at 92” square. The program begins April 2026. Initial sign up has a non-refundable deposit of $50, which includes your first month’s kit and the pattern. Each month after that will be $35. Mailing options are available.
